Disclaimer

As a standard rule of thumb, Rocco discourages anyone from eating any meat harvested from any being that was capable of speech. This book has been put together with the careful experimentation and trial of all included ingredients. It should be mentioned however that due to Rocco’s dwarven heritage, these meals may not be suitable to those of a more sensitive constitution.

Due to the ordinary nature of many common and weak beasts, this guide will begin only with those capable of producing some form of advantage when compared to regular food. Additionally Rocco strongly recommends avoiding eating any beast that is diseased, flea ridden or inflicts a poison or toxin on bite. These creatures are often to blame for adventuring party’s poor performances and can lead to sudden explosive bowel movements.

A Word on Mechanics

Within these recipes are a number of skill checks needed to see how well you are able to perform at creating these meals. Failing to meet the DC will often see the meal still edible but none of the desired effects will be gained. If the PC is able to roll 5 or above the target DC on the both required checks, the effects of the meal are doubled (either in duration or number of charges). Each of these meals will need to be prepped and cooked during a short or long rest.

Ingredients can be collected and stored in appropriate containers at the discretion of the DM for up to 4 weeks. Appropriate containers can include, but are not limited to, flasks, vials, pouches, barrels and baskets.

Ingredients and Recipes

Giant Fire Beetle Mornay

This enormous glowing beetle can produce a rather tasty mornay if its carapace is harvested and soaked correctly in stock. Firstly by performing a DC14 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils or Survival) Check attempt to crack away a hand sized portion of the shell from just behind the beetle's head. Once removed, soak in stock for 1 hour before preparing into a lovely mornay with a DC12 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils) Check. Should you have correctly prepared the mornay, you are left with a delicious treat that provides 1d4 hours of darkvision (15ft).

Blood Hawk Bisque

These pests often swarm and overwhelm their foes with sheer numbers. Although the meat on them is scarce, you are often able to harvest of a number of bodies to combine into a rather spicy bisque. Harvesting the lean meat from the bodies requires an easy DC8 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils or Survival) Check. Additionally the creation of this bisque is straightforward for any chef requiring a DC7 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils) Check. The end result is a lovely bisque, with a rather warm spicy taste. If prepared correctly, the bisque can provide advantage on Sight Wisdom (Perception) Checks for 1 hour after eating.

Deviled Blink Dog

Blink dogs can be tricky to deal with, but as stipulated, the greater the risk the greater the reward. The Blink Dog is mostly just meat ,except for its Giblets which can be found using a DC15 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils or Survival) Check. Once found and removed, use to create a regular style onion gravy with a DC14 Wisdom (Chefs Utensils) Check. Add appropriate vegetables and preferred ingredients to gain 1x use of the Misty Step Spell. This effect only lasts 4 hours.
